Michael J. Gregory, Jr., of Glenville, passed away on October 20, 2009, at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, after an extended illness. Mike was born in Flushing, NY on December 19, 1929, son of the late Michael J. Gregory and Giovanna Rispoli Gregory. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1947 to 1950 as a member of the H & S 7th Communications Section, 1st Division and was a veteran of the Chosin Reservoir Campaign. Mike remained in the Marine Corps Reserves until 1956. In September 1952 he joined the New York State Police and was assigned to Troop C. He was promoted to investigator in September 1962 and was a senior investigator at the time of his retirement in 1976. Mike was past commander of the Charles L. Jacobi American Legion Post 183 in Sidney, NY as well as American Legion Delaware County Past Commander. He was a life member of the VFW and an endowment member of the National Rifle Association. In his younger days, Mike enjoyed the game of tennis and deer hunting. He was a great cook and loved cooking for a crowd. He was an avid fan of air shows, space exploration, aviation and the New York Yankees (27th championship coming up)! He loved his country, was proud to have served in the Marines and was ever ready to help fellow veterans. In 1993, Mike and Bob Ryf founded the Northeast New York State Chapter of The Chosin Few. With Helen Vickroy, his partner of 18 years, they shared the duties of secretary-treasurer of this organization from its inception to the present time. Mike was nominated for and received the prestigious General Ray G. Davis Meritorious Service Award for his assistance, support and dedication to veterans of the Chosin Few Campaign. -
